Tax Saving Calculator

Every deduction you claim lowers taxable income, and a rupee of deduction is worth whatever your slab rate is — 30 paise if you sit in the 30% band. Most taxpayers underuse the allowed limits because the caps are spread across four different sections. This page brings them together, applies each ceiling and prices the saving in rupees for the old regime.

How is the Tax Saving calculated?

Enter what you put into 80C, what you contribute to NPS under 80CCD(1B), the health insurance premium you pay under 80D and the interest on a self-occupied home loan under section 24(b). Pick your slab rate. The calculator caps each figure at its legal ceiling, totals the deduction, multiplies it by your slab and then adds 4% cess to show the saving you actually keep.

Formula

Old regime, FY 2025-26: deduction = min(80C, ₹1,50,000) + min(80CCD(1B), ₹50,000) + min(80D, ₹1,00,000) + min(24(b) interest, ₹2,00,000). Tax saved = deduction × slab rate, then + 4% cess on that cut.

Example

₹1,50,000 across PPF and ELSS, ₹50,000 in NPS, ₹25,000 of health cover and ₹2,00,000 of home loan interest total ₹4,25,000 of deductions. Sitting in the 30% slab that trims tax by ₹1,27,500, and 4% cess on the cut lifts the real saving to ₹1,32,600 for the year. The ceilings bite first: 80C stops at ₹1,50,000 and NPS at ₹50,000, so anything beyond those figures buys no extra relief.

Things to remember

These four deductions belong to the old regime — the new regime allows only employer NPS under 80CCD(2) besides the standard deduction. Invest for the goal rather than the tax break, rates here follow FY 2025-26, and check the latest budget before filing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 80C limit for FY 2025-26?

₹1,50,000 in aggregate, shared across EPF, PPF, ELSS, life insurance premium, children's tuition fees and home loan principal. It is a single ceiling for all of them together, not a limit per investment, and unused room simply lapses at year end.

Does the new regime allow these deductions?

No. 80C, 80D and section 24(b) interest are unavailable under section 115BAC, so this calculator's figures apply to the old regime. The standard deduction is actually higher in the new regime — ₹75,000 against ₹50,000 — and employer NPS still qualifies.

Is NPS deduction over and above 80C?

Yes. Section 80CCD(1B) gives a separate ₹50,000 for your own NPS contribution, stacked on top of the ₹1,50,000 in 80C. Claiming both means up to ₹2,00,000 of deduction before 80D and home loan interest enter the picture.

How much tax does ₹1,50,000 in 80C actually save?

In the 30% slab it cuts ₹45,000 of tax and ₹1,800 of cess, so ₹46,800. The 20% slab saves ₹31,200 and the 5% slab ₹7,800 — which is why a deduction is worth far more to a higher-rate taxpayer.
