EPF Calculator
Provident fund looks like two identical 12% deposits, and then most of the money quietly goes somewhere else. The employer's half is split — 8.33% into the pension scheme, the rest into your EPF corpus — and monthly deposits stop at a ₹15,000 wage ceiling unless you opted otherwise. This calculator shows the split for one month and then compounds it across your tenure, so the retirement number stops being folklore.

How is the EPF calculated?
Enter monthly basic plus DA, the wage PF is computed on, and choose whether it follows the statutory ₹15,000 ceiling or your full wage. Add the years the balance will run and the interest rate — 8.25% is EPFO's declared rate for FY 2025-26. You get the monthly three-way split, the projected corpus with a yearly line chart, and the total both sides deposited.
Formula
PF wages = min(basic + DA, ₹15,000) unless higher PF is opted for. Employee PF = 12% × PF wages. Employer 12% splits as 8.33% → pension (capped at ₹1,249.50 a month) and the remainder → EPF, so ₹15,000 PF wages produce ₹1,800 + ₹550.50 into the corpus. Each month: balance = balance × (1 + rate ÷ 12) + deposits; pension is excluded.
Example
Basic plus DA of ₹50,000 with the default ceiling: PF wages stop at ₹15,000, so you deposit ₹1,800, your employer adds ₹550.50 to EPF, and ₹1,249.50 goes to pension — ₹2,350.50 into the corpus monthly. Over 15 years at 8.25%, ₹4,23,090 of deposits grow to ₹8,31,622.21, meaning ₹4,08,532.21 came from interest alone. Opting for full-wage PF lifts the monthly deposit to ₹10,750.50 and the 15-year corpus to ₹38,03,596.94.
Things to remember
Small levers move this number a lot: a quarter-point of interest, a few extra years or the full-wage option all compound for decades. EPFO credits interest annually on monthly balances, and future rates will change — treat this as a baseline. Revisit it when your basic changes or a new rate is announced.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does my employer contribute to EPF?
12% of your PF wages — the same rate you pay — but 8.33% of it goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme instead of your EPF. On ₹15,000 PF wages that is ₹1,800 total: ₹1,249.50 to pension and ₹550.50 to EPF.
What is the EPF interest rate for FY 2025-26?
EPFO declared 8.25% per year for FY 2025-26, credited annually but computed on month-by-month balances. Enter 8.25% above to project your corpus, and update the field whenever a fresh rate is notified.
Can I contribute more than 12% of my basic?
Yes, through the Voluntary Provident Fund, where you can contribute up to 100% of basic + DA while the employer stays at 12%. VPF earns the same 8.25% tax-free interest, which is why many use it as a debt allocation.
Is the 8.33% pension part of my EPF balance?
No. Pension contributions build a separate EPS corpus and never appear in your EPF passbook balance, which is why the projection above excludes them. EPS pension depends on pensionable service and the ₹15,000 wage ceiling — with full service it can reach ₹7,500 a month.
