Daily Wage Calculator

Consultants, contractors and employees on notice periods all end up needing one number: what a single working day of their salary is worth. Interviews, freelance scopes and notice-pay arguments get settled in per-day figures, yet almost nobody knows theirs. This calculator turns an annual or monthly package into a daily rate using an explicit working-day calendar, so the convention you choose is part of the answer.

How is the Daily Wage calculated?

Enter the salary and mark it annual or monthly. Then set working days per year: 260 is the default and the most common white-collar figure, built as a five-day week across 52 weeks. Six-day teams usually enter 312, and project-based staff can enter the days they actually work. The page returns the daily rate, the weekly equivalent and the salary restated in the other period.

Formula

Annual salary = monthly × 12, or the annual figure as entered. Daily rate = annual salary ÷ working days per year. The default 260 comes from 5 days × 52 weeks; weekly equivalent = daily rate × working days ÷ 52. This is a calendar conversion, not a deduction — PF, tax and allowances are not applied, so enter gross salary for a paid-day rate.

Example

A ₹9,60,000 package divided across 260 working days gives ₹3,692.31 for a day, which multiplies back to ₹18,461.54 for a five-day week and ₹80,000 a month. The same package on a six-day calendar spans 312 days, and dividing by that instead gives ₹3,846.15 a day — each extra working day in the year trims what one day is worth.

Things to remember

State the divisor whenever you quote a day rate, because two people on the same salary can differ by 20% purely through their working calendar. Notice pay and gratuity use a separate 26-day wage convention — those pages handle it for you. Re-check the number when your working week changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many working days are in a year for salary?

For a five-day week the standard is 260 days — 5 days × 52 weeks. Six-day workplaces use 312, and some contracts count 300. The number matters: dividing the same package by 260 instead of 312 changes the daily rate by about 17%.

How is daily wage calculated from monthly salary?

Multiply the monthly salary by 12 to annualise it, then divide by working days per year. ₹80,000 a month is ₹9,60,000 a year; ÷ 260 gives ₹3,692.31 a day. Enter the monthly figure with the period switched to monthly and the calculator does this for you.

What is the difference between 26 days and 260 days?

They serve different jobs. 260 days is the calendar you work — used to price a day of salary here. The 26-day divisor belongs to gratuity and notice pay, where a monthly wage is divided by 26 to value one day of wages under the Payment of Gratuity Act.

Should the daily rate use CTC or take-home pay?

Use gross salary if you want what the employer spends on a working day, and take-home if you are pricing your own time against what you actually receive. The calculator performs no deductions, so whichever annual figure you enter is the basis it divides.
