Age Calculator

Age is more than a single number — knowing the precise years, months and days since birth helps with school enrolment, retirement planning, milestone celebrations and legal thresholds. This calculator turns a birth date into a full age breakdown, the total days lived and the equivalent hours, so you have every figure at a glance.

How is the Age calculated?

Enter the day, month and year of birth. The calculator uses today's date as the reference point and computes the difference in whole years, remaining months and remaining days, correctly handling leap-day birthdays (29 February) by treating them as 28 February in non-leap years. It also sums every calendar day lived and multiplies by 24 for total hours.

Formula

Age = reference date − birth date. Years increment each time the birth month and day have passed; months and days are the remainder. Total days = calendar days between the two dates (UTC, exclusive of the end date). Total hours = total days × 24. Leap-day births count 28 February as the anniversary in non-leap years.

Example

Someone born on 15 August 1990, checked on 20 October 2024, is 34 years, 2 months and 5 days old. They have lived 12,485 days, which equals 299,640 hours. If the same person checks on 15 August 2025, the calculator shows exactly 35 years, 0 months, 0 days and 12,784 days lived (nine 29 February days included).

Things to remember

Use the total-days figure when a form asks for 'age in days' and the hours figure for fun comparisons. For official documents, confirm whether the authority wants age at last birthday or age at next birthday — this page gives both implicitly. Revisit on each birthday; the numbers change only once a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is age calculated from date of birth?

Count full years since the birth year each time the birth month and day have passed. The leftover months and days are the gap from the last birthday to today. This calculator does that automatically and also shows total days and hours lived.

What happens if I was born on 29 February?

In non-leap years the calculator treats 28 February as your birthday for the 'has the birthday passed' check, so you still get a correct age in years, months and days. On leap years it uses 29 February normally.

Does the calculator use my local time zone?

No — all arithmetic is done in UTC so the result is the same no matter where you open the page. The reference moment is midnight UTC today.

Can I use this for a baby or a future date?

The calculator requires the birth date to be on or before today. For a future date, use the date-difference calculator instead.
